Catherine Jane Lloyd Biography

Catherine Jane Lloyd was actually born on 19 February 1898 but her father Evan was going to be fined for registering her birth late so officially she was born 20 February 1898 at 10,The Triangle, Pentrebach, just outside Merthyr Tydfil. Her birth was registered by her father, Evan Lloyd on 2 April 1898 in Merthyr Tydfil registration district. She attended Pentrebach and Abercanaid Schools followed by attendance at the newly opened Higher Grade School, which later became Cyfartha Castle Grammar School.

She became an uncertified teacher in Abercanaid. Attended Dudley Teacher Training College Birmingham from 1919 to 1921, where she was for the 1921 Census in June. Struggled a little with being taught in English but having thought processes in Welsh. Taught in schools in Pentrebach and Aberfan whilst living in Pentrebach and Abercanaid.

Married David Brinley Evans on 31st March 1929 at Zion Chapel, Abercanaid, Merthyr Tydfil in the district of Merthyr Tydfil in the Glamorgan, Brecknock counties. His address at time of marriage was Penyard House, Merthyr Tydfil. Her address was 6 Gethin Street, Abercanaid, where the other residenta were Evan and Mary Lloyd, and Helena Lloyd. His father was John Evans, a colliery lampman. Her father was Evan Lloyd, a coal miner. The witnesses were N. Lloyd, Albert Parte,Evan Lloyd, John Evans and Lizzie Evans.

Moved into Penyard House outside Merthyr, where had two children, Mona and John. Moved from there to rented accommodation in Church View and Gethin Place Abercanaid. Bought Alexander Place, Abercanaid in 1938 but then moved to NCB provided accommodation, Dillington Terrace. Next accommodation included Bailey Street, Mountain Ash (NCB property), an NCB house in Tylorstown; The final move was from Fernbank, Ferndale back to Alexander Place, Abercanaid.

Made the world's best Welsh cakes and taught me the 7 times table. Never minded being Donkey but loved playing Escalado.

Died on 23 January 1973 at our house in 119 Pontypridd Road, after falling seriously ill whilst attending the Massed Male Voices Choirs concert at the Royal Albert Hall. The illness was brought on by complications arising from breast cancer. Death Certificate, certified by David Stephens ,gave the cause of death as Carcinoma of Breast & Inthrathoracic spread. Death registered by John Evans on 25th January 1973. Her ashes were buried in Llwydcoed Crematorium, near Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan.
