Thomas Francis Biography

Thomas Francis was born on 12th January 1841 in Ditcheat, Somerset in Evercreech district. His father’s name was Jonas Francis, a labourer. His mother was Charlotte Francis formerly Norman. She registered the birth on 22nd February 1841. He was baptised 7 February 1841 in St. Mary's, Ditcheat, Somerset.

He married Elizabeth Kertion on 24th January 1864 in St. Mary’s Church in the Parish of Bridgewater. She was a 24 yr old servant. He was a 23 yr old engine driver. Her Father was Robert Kertion, a labourer. His father was Jonas Francis, a labourer. The witnesses were John and Fanny Duck. Fanny is his sister Frances. Both bride and groom signed the register by making their mark. The Banns said both were of the parish of Bridgwater.

His wife, Elizabeth, died in 1897.

In the 1911 Census he is a patient in Bridgwater Hospital, Salmon Parade, Bridgewater, Age 69 place of birth Ditchette Somerset. He died in Bridgwater on 18th April 1911 in Bridgewater.

Ellen (Nellie) Francis and Freddy Francis are shown in the 1891 and 1881 Census' as children of Thomas and Elizabeth. Their daughter Charlotte married Frederick Mountstevens in 1894 and in the 1901 Census Frederick Francis Mountstvens is shown as their son and Nellie Mounstevens is listed as a boarder. Both these children were born to Charlotte Francis out of wedlock
