Joseph William Mudford Biography
Born 12 July 1888 in Midsomer Norton in the registration district of Clutton in the sub district of Midsomer Norton. His father was Joseph Mudford, a farm labourer. His mother was Mary Mudford, formerly Hillier. Mary Jane Mudford registered his birth on 21 August 1888.
His first wife was Florence Ann Amberry known as Florrie. They married in Tynewydd Road Congregational Church in Barry on 19 August 1911. She worked as a cleaner at Llandough Hospital. He went through life known as Mutford not Mudford. His marriage is thus not included in Brian Mudford’s excellent book.
In the 1918/1918/1922 Electoral Registers he was living in 58 Main Street, Barry with his wife Florence Ann, and brother Arthur Thomas Mudford, along with Florence's parents, Thomas and Elizabeth McCord, who had moved to Barry from Llantwit Major.
Alma and Vi were his children.
Violet married Hayne in 1938 (using the surname Mutford). She married Jack Loyns in 1946 and had two children, Sylvia and Anthony.
His second wife wad Selina Harvey. They married Q3 1938 in Barry, Glamorgan, Wales (E. Glamorgan 11a 2163). He died Q4 1951 in Barry, Glamorgan, Wales (E.Glamorgan 8b 302)
In the 1939 Register Joseph Mutford and Selina were living in 55 Castleland Street, Barry, with Betty C Jarrev(Harvey), Selina's daughter from a previous marriage. Joseph was a Discharge Grain Flour Mill (Heavy Worker), Betty Shop Assistant Tobacconist Newsagent
