Leslie Mudford Biography

He was born on 18 February 1902 in Kennels, Stratton on the Fosse, Shepton Mallet, England. However his birth certificate was initially for a girl named Bessie. There is a note on the certificate which reads: In Entry No 375 Column 2 for "Bessie" read "Leslie" and in Column 3 for "Girl" read "Boy". Corrected on the 23 November 1926 by me, A. E. Nalder Superintendent Registrar on production of Statutory Declarations made by Sarah Cornick and Mary Dennett".

Sarah Cornick (nee Hillier) is his aunt and Mary Dennett (nee Mudford) is his sister.

He was baptised in Chicompton Parish, on 1 November 1914

He married Lilian Florence Lye, aged 30 on 1 October 1927 in Christ Church, Parish of Downside. His father was Joseph Mudford (deceased). Her father was Alfred Lye, a labourer. Witnesses were Edmund Thomas Dennett and Alfred Fear. She was a sponsor of Dad at his baptism.

A 1939 war-time residence record for 13 Bennel Cottages, Shepton Mallet shows as resident Leslie Mudford, Lillian Mudford and Charles Lye. Leslie's occupation is Colliery onsetter below, and he's marked as being an ARP Warden.

He died Q2 1972 in Norton Radstock District

In the 1921 Census Leslie is living with his mother Mary Jane Forchan and her daughter Kartina in Fry's Well, Chilcompton
