Stanley Charles Stone Biography

Born 1 November 1897 in Cannards Grave Road, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England. Married Sarah (Sal) Jane Lewis on 28 October 1922. Had three children.

Ronald Charles Stone who married Beryl Bryant; Margaret Stone who married Maldwyn Fryer and had two children Robert and Alayne; Pamela Stone who married John Griffiths and had two daughters Eirwen and Allyson

In the 1939 Register, Stanley (Foreman Lorry Driver Domestic Coal Distributor), Sarah, Ron, Patricia and Margaret were in 54 Bailey Street, Mountain Ash U.D., Glamorgan

Died 18 July 1972 in Mountain Ash, Glamorgan, Wales. Buried July 1972 in Llwydcoed Crematorium, Glamorgan, Wales

Mr S Stone, Miskin

Retired steam engine driver, Mr Stanley Stone, who became a fan-engineman at Abergorki Colliery during the latter years of his working life, died recently at his home, 54, Bailey Street, Miskin, Mountain Ash.

Mr Stone, a native of the district, had borne a long illness with courage, having been virtually housebound for some years. A faithful member of St Johns Church, Miskin, where he had been a chorister for 50 years, he had been a tenor soloist and an enthusiastic member of several local choirs in his younger days. He had been secretary of St. Teilos Church Club for over 21 years, and was a keen philatelist and gardener.

Following a service at the house, conducted by the Vicar of Mountain Ash, the Rev. Gwilym Williams, cremation took place at Llwydcoed.

Filer, J. Davies, A. Rivers, B. Powell, L. Sheppard, E. Jones, J. Griffiths, J. Nutt, T. Bond and W. Bryant, friends.

Bearers: Messrs. R. Williams, A. Manfield, G. Davies and D. Fryer.

At the house: Sal, wife; Margaret and Pam, daughters; Lynda, Alayne, Eirwen and Allyson, grand-daughters; Timothy and Victoria, great-grandchildren; Beryl, daughter-in-law; Alice, Mona, Vera, Joan and Margaret, nieces; Rose,sister-in-law.

Unable to attend owing to illness were Margaret and Ethel, sisters.

Wreaths were confined to the family cross of roses. Flowers for the house were from Dora Davies, B. Evans, E. Jones, N. Davies and friends from Cadwaladr Street.

Funeral arrangements were by Aberdare and District Co-operative Society.

In the 1921 Census, Stan and family were in Albert Street, Miskin, Mountain Ash. Stan was listed as a helper on a coal lorry working at Nixon Navigation Colliery.
