Elizabeth Kertion Biography

She was born in 1836 in Chelynch, near Doulting, just outside Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England and baptised on 12^th June 1836 in Doulting. Her father was Robert Kerton, a coal carrier. Her mother was Matilda Wilcox.

She married Thomas Francis on 24^th January 1864 in St. Mary’s Church in the Parish of Bridgewater. She was a 24 yr old servant. He was a 23 yr old engine driver. Her Father was Robert Kertion, a labourer. His father was Jonas Francis, a labourer. The witnesses were John and Fanny Duck. Fanny is his sister Frances. (GRO ref 5C 629.)

Thomas Francis is living with his daughter in law in the 1901 Census as she died on 20th October 1897 in 80 Bath Road, Bridgewater, Somerset, England of heart disease

Ellen (Nellie) Francis and Freddy Francis are shown in the 1891 and 1881 Census' as children of Thomas and Elizabeth. Their daughter Charlotte married Frederick Mountstevens in 1894 and in the 1901 Census Frederick Francis Mountstvens is shown as their son and Nellie Mounstevens is listed as a boarder. Both these children were born to Charlotte Francis out of wedlock
